The Literature of Prescription: Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Yellow Wall-Paper In-Person
The Harrell Health Sciences Library in partnership with the Department of Humanities will host the traveling exhibit: “The Literature of Prescription: Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Yellow Wall-Paper”. On display from January 27, 2025 to March 8, 2025 in the library commons room C1620. The National Library of Medicine produced this exhibition and companion website.
The traveling exhibition and companion website explore a short story that challenged 19th-century notions of female weakness and social conventions that restricted women's professional and creative opportunities. During a time when women were challenging traditional ideas about gender that excluded them from political and intellectual life, artist and writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman rejected these ideas in a short story titled "The Yellow Wall-Paper.”
This short story can be read online here.
Visit the exhibit and join the Connecting Through Literature Book club for a book discussion of "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman on Feb. 12, 2025 at 12pm via Zoom. Click here to register for The book discussion.
